The Soo Locks will open March 25, giving this year’s domestic Great Lakes shipping season an on-time start, the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. announced on Tuesday.

International traffic won’t be far behind as the Welland Canal is set to open March 29.

“Vessel transits will be subject to weather and ice conditions,” the agency wrote in a joint press release with the Canadian St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. “Restrictions may apply in some areas until lighted navigation aids have been installed.”
