Lake Country Power is working to restore electrical service in the Grand Rapids and Mountain Iron service areas to 3,500 customers.

As of 4:30 p.m., Lake Country Power crews were working on power lines damaged by fallen trees. Strong winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour are causing the damage, according to information on the Lake Country Power website. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 10 p.m. and the power company warns that more outages may occur and restoration of electric service may be slow.

The main problem is trees coming into contact with a Minnesota Power transmission line that feeds into Lake Country Power's Nashwauk and Crooked Lake Substations.
