1,750 still without power in Itasca and Cass counties

About 1,750 Lake Country Power customers remained without power late Saturday afternoon as crews continued to make progress on repairing damage caused by two rounds of severe storms last week.

About 1,750 Lake Country Power customers remained without power late Saturday afternoon as crews continued to make progress on repairing damage caused by two rounds of severe storms last week.

Most of those outages were in Itasca and Cass counties, particularly in the Ball Club, Bena and Arbo Township areas near Grand Rapids and Deer River -- areas hit hard by destructive winds brought by storms last Monday. The utility said it may be several more days before all customers have electricity restored in those areas.

A small group of outages also remained Saturday in the Cook area of northern St. Louis County, which was hit by severe weather on the Fourth of July. Service was expected to be restored to those customers by Saturday night, Lake Country Power reported.

At their peak, the outages affected nearly 12,000 Lake Country Power customers after the Monday storms, and 2,000 more after Wednesday's severe weather.
