Ashley Nicole Edberg, 16, of Canosia Rd., died Friday August 23, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident. Ashley was born May 26, 1986, in Duluth, to Mark and Chris (Sylvester) Edberg. She attended Munger grade School, Jedlicka Junior High and was about to start her junior year at Proctor High School. At Proctor, Ashley was on the varsity soccer team and had played in the High School band. She worked at the McDonald's at Spirit Mountain.
Michael A. Mallon, 45 of Commonwealth Ave., died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in Duluth, the son of Harry and Nellie Grafmier Mallon. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Ruth (Lyle) Smith of Byron, MN., Harriet Mallon of Two Harbors, Grace Hudgins of Azle, TX., Frances (Rene) LeBlanc of Granite Falls, MN., Beverly (Roger) Stoneburner of Duluth, Harry (Bonnie) Mallon of Duluth, Fred Mallon, Duluth, Paula (Severt) Mogensen, Jr., Colorado Springs, CO., and Daniel (Janet) Mallon of Duluth; several nieces and nephews.
William N. Manninen, 86, of Kinney, died Thursday, August 22, 2002, peacefully at his home, after a battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eino, Sulo and Edwin Manninen; sisters Grace Yerak, Mae Nagy, Sigrid Ruhanen Thayer, Lily Harkonen, and Sadie Manninen.
Russell A. Ross, age 82, of Lutsen, died Friday, August 23, 2002. SERVICES:Saturday, September 7, 12:30 PM at the Lutsen Lutheran Church in Lutsen, MN. John Peder Sather, 73, formerly of Cumming Ave., died Wednesday, August 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Marlys; daughters, Robbyn Stariha, Tammi Dailey, and Suzanne Sanders; sons, Michael, Patrick, and Mark; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson, and a sister, Barbara Holman. Mary Jane Thorpe, 92, of London Road, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born in Cloquet, MN on September 20, 1909 to Nelsand Esther (Huerlin) Thorpe. Mary Jane was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 1965 as a supervisor. She was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of AARP,Order of the Eastern Star-Arrowhead Chapter No. 279, Telephone Pioneers ofAmerica, the Duluth Republican Club, and the Golden Arrow Travel Club. MaryJane volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital for many years.
John M. Zeug, 82, Superior, died Friday, August 23, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. VISITATION: Visitation will be after 5 PM Sunday, August 25, 2002, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior with a Scripture Service scheduled for 6:30 PM that evening. Hilda E. Anderson, 93, of Hibbing, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002, in the University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing. She was born in Hibbing on May 2, 1909, to David and Amelia Mattson. She was a homemaker and member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ragnar; daughters, Arlene Basarich and Joyce Battisti, and a grandson, Daniel Anderson.
James 'Jim' Peter Fisher, age 67, of Nickerson, MN, died Thursday, August 22, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was born on October 20, 1934 in Eau Claire, WI, to Charles and Marcella (Gerlach) Fisher. He was a Korean war veteran, and was a member of the teamsters union, local 346; driving a truck for Hyman Freighway for 30 years, until his retirement in 1996. Jim was married to Donna Wiggins, April 5, 1975, in Carlton MN. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his yearly camping and fishing trips to Canada (Nickerson Island).
Beverly M. Fuller, 83, of Hermantown, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2002, at Edgewood Vista. Beverly was a life-long Duluth resident who attended Denfeld High School and married Clyde R. Fuller. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret LeFaive; father, Edward Hogstad, and husbands, Harold Nelson and Clyde Fuller. Beverly is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Derek) Notman from Minnetonka, MN., and Gail O'Kash of Escondido, CA.; sister, Corrine (Ray) DeWater of Sun City, AZ.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews.
