ST. PAUL — Minnesota United owner Bill McGuire is gaining control of the Midway Shopping Center as its master tenant, removing the last major impediment toward building a Major League Soccer stadium on the St. Paul site. St. Paul Port Authority President Lee Krueger said McGuire's decision to buy out the mortgage for the Rainbow Foods store will allow the team to finally demolish the supermarket and make room for the stadium's northern edges.

After last fall’s run of 6,167 steelhead, Wisconsin’s Brule River took a run of just 507 steelhead this spring, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The spawning migration is monitored by video. The spring run was lower than any other in at least the past 25 years. The spring run is typically much smaller than the fall run. Overall, the 2015-16 run was better than several in the past few years.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association on Tuesday named Craig Engwall as its new executive director. Engwall has more than 20 years’ experience in law, natural resources and conservation and served as northeast regional director of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Grand Rapids. Engwall, an attorney, is currently forest legacy projects coordinator with the DNR at Hibbing. He will assume his duties with MDHA on Jan. 2. “I’m ecstatic. The University of Wisconsin-Superior is hosting a new traveling art exhibit starting Sept. 22 in Swenson Hall. The opening reception for “Transforming the Human Spirit,” an exhibit that, according to a statement from the university, promotes viewer awareness of their power to create peace, is set for 5 p.m. opening day.
