District 5 - Eveleth area CO Don Bozovsky (Hibbing) worked boating and angling activity, state park and invasive species enforcement and taught gun safety and boat safety to the Hibbing Safety Town program. Folks continue to operate paddleboards without registration and without having PFDs on board.
District 5 - Eveleth area CO Darrin Kittelson (Int’l Falls) reports fairly busy weekend with lots of people enjoying the nicer weather. Fishing, boat and water safety, invasive species enforcement activities took up most of the week. Enforcement action was taken for over limits of and northern pike, illegal length walleye, transport/ possession of unmeasurable walleye while on the water, and possess fish that were unlawfully taken in Canada. Wolf depredation cases were also investigated during the week.
District 5 - Eveleth area CO Marc Hopkins (Tower) with the numerous rainy days this past week, activity was slower. The officer issued a beaver permit to remove beaver that were blocking navigational waters. A call of an injured wolf was taken, but upon investigation by the officer, it turned out to be a husky.
District 5 - Eveleth area CO Darrin Kittelson (Int’l Falls) reports work activities involving fishing, boating safety, and invasive species enforcement on Rainy Lake and Kabetogama Lake. Forensic interviewing and interrogation training was attended at Camp Ripley. Enforcement action over the Memorial Weekend included no angling license possession, uncountable fish, no Type IV PFD, and illegal length walleye.
District 5 - Eveleth area CO Marc Hopkins (Tower) attended training at Camp Ripley. Much of the officer’s time was spent on Vermilion checking anglers. The bite was good early, but with the hot weather and calm conditions it slowed slightly as the week progressed. The warm weekend resulted in a large number of people taking advantage of the good conditions. Reminder to everyone be safe out on the water, wear your life jackets, and don’t boat while intoxicated.

District 5 - Eveleth area CO Darrin Kittelson (Int’l Falls) reports a busy week with the sturgeon fishing keep season on the Rainy River coming to a close. Several animal complaints were handled also throughout the week. Enforcement action taken for the week included angling with extra line, tag sturgeon incorrectly, driving after suspension, and illegal length sturgeon.
