As a lifelong resident of Northeastern Minnesota and a successful small business owner for more than 30 years, I find a lot to dislike in Congressman Rick Nolan's federal bill proposing to force a land exchange between the Superior National Forest and PolyMet Mining (Our View: "A lot to like in land swap," July 12).
I’d like to tell you why I want to be your next state representative in District 3A. I love the North Country. I grew up here, and it’s where I’ve chosen to live and raise my family after taking over the small outfitting business my parents started more than half a century ago on Sawbill Lake, north of Tofte. Because we all live in such a spectacular place, it’s sometimes easy to forget how special the North Country really is.
