STURGIS, S.D. - - The fastest woman on four wheels, who also likes her motorcycles, will be this year’s grand marshal at the 77th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Black Hills native Jessi Combs will be the grand marshal for the 15th Annual Sturgis Mayor’s Ride scheduled to take place on Monday, Aug. 7.
RYDER, N.D. — Pretty much all of the eligible riders showed up last weekend in Ryder to start training on riding motorcycles as Harley-Davidson Motor Co. is hoping to make the western North Dakota town the first in America to have all of its residents fully licensed as riders. Mike Roach, leader of public relations for Harley-Davidson in the U.S., said 50 people signed up for a riding academy in the first three hours on Saturday, which he said was all of the eligible riders with a driver's license in the town of 85 people about 40 miles southwest of Minot.
RAPID CITY, S.D.—An error by pilots has been blamed for the mistaken landing of a Delta Air Lines flight last summer in western South Dakota, according to a report from the National Transportation Safety Board.. The plane that with 130 passengers aboard from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport was supposed to land at the Rapid City Regional Airport last July 7, but instead landed about six miles away at the Ellsworth Air Force Base. The two airfields have runways that nearly line up as they both run northwest-to-southeast..
FARGO – A global security firm with ties to the government reportedly conducted extensive surveillance and infiltrated activist groups during the prolonged protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The firm, TigerSwan, used “military-style counterterrorism measures” and worked closely with law enforcement agencies in five states, including North Dakota and South Dakota, according to a report by The Intercept, an online publication.
WANBLEE, S.D.-- Five people were killed when a vehicle collided head-one with a semi over the Memorial Day weekend near Wanblee, S.D., in far southwest South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation about 100 miles from Rapid City, according to a report on KNBN-TV. The only survivor was a 16-month-old baby boy.

MINNEAPOLIS —Prosecutors and law officers say they have dismantled a Thai sex trafficking operation that spread across the United States by indicting 21 more people. The announcement was made Thursday, May 25, at a news conference in Minneapolis after indictments were unsealed charging the 21, whom prosecutors said were at "high levels in the sophisticated criminal enterprise" that brought women from Thailand to cities across the U.S. All but one of those charged were arrested Wednesday, May 24, at locations in California, Texas and the Chicago area.
MINOT, N.D. -- An 18-year-old has entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct for a lunchtime water balloon fight at a Minot high school. Xavier Mason Falcon, who just turned 18 last Tuesday, entered the plea this week after last week’s incident at the Magic City campus. Two other 17-year-old boys were also cited for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and their cases are being handled in juvenile court.
PIERRE, S.D. – Troopers from the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Minnesota State Patrol will join together to conduct a 23-hour traffic safety, Memorial Day weekend crackdown starting Friday morning. The two agencies along with other law enforcement departments are participating in the annual I-90 Safety Operation taking place from 5 a.m Friday, May 26, to 4 a.m. Saturday, May 27.
CRYSTAL, Minn. - Authorities in Crystal in the western part of the Twin Cities are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday morning. According to Crystal police: Officers were called to Bassett Creek Park shortly before 9 a.m. on a report of an armed man on the park’s disc golf course. A resident of an adjacent apartment building called 911 to report the gunman.
