Prep report: Greenway advances to 7AA volleyball final

Hannah Goggleye totaled 15 kills and Greenway staved off Duluth Marshall in the final two sets to win 3-0 in a Section 7AA high school volleyball semifinal Wednesday night at Duluth Denfeld.

Claire Vekich also was in double figures with 11 kills as the top-seeded Raiders (25-6) won 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 to set up a championship match against North Branch at 4 p.m. Saturday at Denfeld.

Kate Kleinschmidt had 21 kills for the Hilltoppers (21-4).

North Branch 3, Hermantown 0

Cianna Selbitschka’s 23 kills paced the Vikings to the 25-22, 25-16, 25-14 victory in the other 7AA semifinal.

Haley Hadrava contributed 48 set assists for the winners.

Carlton 3, North Woods 0

Taylor Nelson and Abby Mickle each posted 15 kills in the top-seeded Bulldogs’ 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 victory in the Section 7A semifinals at Hibbing.

Brynne Mickle had 40 set assists for Carlton (24-5), which moves into Saturday’s final against Cook County.

Cook County 3, Cherry 1

Meredith Sutton recorded 26 kills and the Vikings pulled away from the Tigers with dominant third and fourth sets in the other 7A semifinal.

Cook County improved to 21-5.

Cherry’s Haley Hansen had 17 kills.
