Outlook: Last fall, Proctor was on the verge of falling behind in the Hammer series for the first time since 1987, before the Rails stopped a five-year skid against Hermantown, winning 20-16 at Corey Veech Memorial Field to pull back in front, 33-32-1. That followed the Hawks' 68-0 blowout in 2015, which tied this rivalry born in 1941 at 32-32-1 (regular season only). During its three-game winning streak that ended last week at Cloquet, Proctor allowed six total points. QB John Pioro has completed 33 of 63 passes (52 percent) for 446 yards and seven TDs, while adding 310 yards on the ground. Jerid Parrott has rushed for 324 yards. Brett Bower leads the defense with 61 tackles and two interceptions. Kaleb Stevens has a team-best six sacks. ... Before last fall, Hermantown hadn't endured a three-game losing streak since the beginning of 2006. Now the Hawks have a three-game skid in back-to-back seasons. They fell to Hibbing last week. Juniors Caden Potter and Elliott Peterson rushed for 101 and 68 yards, respectively, against the Bluejackets. After scoring 34 points vs. Moose Lake-Willow River in a Week 1 win and 28 in a loss to North Branch the next week, Hermantown is averaging 12.3 points in its past four games.
