Vikings' Peterson won’t play Saturday

MANKATO, Minn. — While it’s hardly a surprise, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer made it official Thursday that Adrian Peterson won’t play in Saturday’s preseason game against Arizona at TCF Bank Stadium.

It’s possible, in fact, the star running back will sit out the entire preseason for precautionary measures. He played two snaps in a preseason game last season but hasn’t had a preseason carry since August 2011, four months before he suffered a very serious knee injury.

Peterson bounced back to rush for 2,097 yards in 2012.

Zimmer also said Josh Robinson likely won’t play against the Cardinals after aggravating a hamstring injury Wednesday in practice. The setback makes it less likely he will beat Captain Munnerlyn for the starting job at left cornerback.

Four other players have been ruled out for Saturday: safety Robert Blanton, who has a hamstring strain; tight end Chase Ford, recovering from a broken left foot; linebacker Dom DeCicco, who had hip surgery on Thursday; and defensive tackle Linval Joseph.

Joseph suffered a minor calf injury when grazed by a bullet as a bystander during a shooting last Saturday at a Minneapolis nightclub.
