The Timberwolves announced Tuesday that first-round draft pick Zach LaVine has signed a contract with the franchise.

LaVine, a 6-foot-5 combo guard out of UCLA, was the 13th overall pick in the June 26 draft. Terms of his rookie contract were not released by the franchise.

LaVine, 19, is in Minnesota to prepare for the Las Vegas summer league starting this weekend.

LaVine, who made only one start during his freshman season at UCLA in 2013-14, was seen setting a high-speed pace during a scrimmage to end Monday’s practice.

“I thought that LaVine was exceptional,” coach Flip Saunders said. “He has an unbelievable feel for the game.”

LaVine averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 37 games for the Bruins. His 48 made 3-pointers were second most by a UCLA freshman in school history.
