College baseball: Duluth welcomes six teams for NCAA Division III regional
St. Scholastica will host the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament's Duluth Regional Thursday through Sunday at Wade Stadium.
Six teams are participating — but not the Saints — starting with Concordia-Chicago (33-12) taking on Bethany Lutheran (23-10) at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by North Central (28-12) and Dubuque (24-15) at 3 p.m. and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (31-8) and Bethel (32-9) at 7 p.m.
Bethany Lutheran, Dubuque and Bethel are making their first NCAA regional appearances, while both Concordia-Chicago and North Central both won regionals last year. Bethany Lutheran topped the Saints twice last week in the UMAC tournament championship to earn the automatic bid.
Play in the double-elimination regional continues at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday.
Duluth is one of eight regional tournament sites. It will be the first NCAA Division III postseason event St. Scholastica has ever hosted. The eight regional winners advance to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship May 25-29 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis.
