Twins hold off White Sox

CHICAGO — Oswaldo Arcia had two hits, including a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning, as the Minnesota Twins overcame a late rally to hold off the Chicago White Sox 8-6 on Saturday.

After the White Sox turned a two-run deficit into a 6-4 lead in the seventh, Ronald Belisario (4-8) relieved starter Scott Carroll and gave up a one-out single to Trevor Plouffe before hitting Josh Willingham with a pitch. Kurt Suzuki followed with a grounder past second to plate a run and end Belisario’s outing.

Chicago closer Jake Petricka came on to retire Kennys Vargas to get the second out, but Arcia’s liner bounced off the glove of a backpedaling Alejandro De Aza near the fence in left to put Minnesota in front. Danny Santana added some insurance in the ninth with a solo blast.

Ryan Pressly (1-0) retired the only batter he faced to end the seventh, Casey Fien tossed a scoreless eighth and Glen Perkins worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 27th save.

Minnesota got to Carroll early as Plouffe — the third of four consecutive Twins to reach base to begin the game — doubled down the line to plate Santana before Brian Dozier scored on a double-play grounder. Santana opened the third with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch before Plouffe brought him home with a liner into the gap in right-center to make it 3-0.

After Gordon Beckham’s RBI groundout put Chicago on the board in the bottom half, Minnesota restored its three-run margin in the fourth on another double-play grounder.

Alexei Ramirez’s solo shot — his third homer in his last four contests against the Twins — opened the fourth and the rest of the lead quickly evaporated in the seventh as Adam Eaton’s two-run double sparked a four-run outburst.

r Chicago 1B Jose Abreu went 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his 21-game hitting streak. The run was the longest by a White Sox rookie since Chico Carrasquel’s 24-game run in 1950.

r Minnesota starter Yohan Pino yielded four runs on seven hits over

6⅓ innings.
