Winkelman is Huskies lone All-Star selection
Left-handed pitcher Alex Winkelman, a sophomore from Southeast Missouri State, was the lone Duluth Huskies player selected Friday to the Northwoods League All-Star Game.
Winkelman has posted a 2-3 record, a 2.08 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 39 innings.
The All-Star Game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. July 22 at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wis.
In the North Division, the Mankato MoonDogs and the Waterloo Bucks led the way with five selections apiece. In the South Division, defending Northwoods League champion Madison had six players named.
The manager of the South team, former Wisconsin-Superior coach Eddy Morgan of Lakeshore, has the Chinooks atop the second-half standings with an 8-1 record after winning the first-half championship by 3½ games.
- Levi Scott hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to lead the MoonDogs to a 7-3 victory over the Huskies before 1,411 at Franklin Rogers Field on Friday night in Mankato, Minn. The homer was Scott’s fifth of the season and gives him 37 RBIs, tied for second in the league. Peter Maris, with a surname more associated with homers, had a double and two RBIs for Mankato (6-5), which moved ahead of the Huskies (5-5) in the Northern Division.
Alex Greene and Alex Michaels each had two hits for Duluth.
