HIBBING-CHISHOLM (11-14-2) VS. PROCTOR-HERMANTOWN (15-12)
What: Section 7A final
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Miners Memorial Building, Virginia
Outlook: Fifth-seeded Hibbing-Chisholm, which has a knack for turning it on late, continued its improbable playoff run by knocking off top-seeded Duluth Marshall 2-1 on Saturday in Virginia as sophomore forward Emma Lundell scored the game-winner 26 seconds into overtime. Junior goalie Abby Edstrom, who came on strong in leading the Bluejackets to their 12th state tournament last season, had 26 saves in the win. While goals have been hard to come by, Edstrom has a 1.77 goals-against average, .928 save percentage and four shutouts. Sophomore Allie Bussey (18 goals, 16 assists, 34 points) and Lundell (10-17—27) lead the Bluejackets in scoring. Edstrom had 37 saves and Bussey scored the game-winner as Hibbing-Chisholm downed fourth-seeded Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1-0 in four overtimes in their playoff opener last week in Cloquet. ... Second-seeded Proctor-Hermantown advanced with a 2-1 victory over International Falls as senior forward Torii Thomas' power-play goal at 14:57 in the third period lifted the Mirage to their fifth section final in the past six years. Junior Dehli Heikes (12-13—25) and seniors Mariah Haedrich (7-10—17) and Karie Lenard (6-10—16) lead the team in scoring, while junior Ryan Gray (1.92 GAA, .905 save percentage, three shutouts) is solid in net. The Mirage are vying for their fourth state tournament appearance and third since 2014. They handled Hibbing-Chisholm 4-1 and 4-0 during the regular season.
