College Nordic skiing: Saints finish in top three at conference meet
The St. Scholastica women's Nordic ski team took second and the men finished third overall over the weekend at the Central Collegiate Ski Association Championships in Rhinelander, Wis.
On the final day of competition Sunday, the Saints' Greta Jenkins (48 minutes), Hanna Dahlberg (48:06) and Samantha Benzing (48:32) finished 10th through 12th in the women's 15-kilometer freestyle race. Northern Michigan had the top six finishers to complete a perfect score of 222 to win the CCSA title. The Saints edged Michigan Tech for second 150-149.
Tamer Mische-Richter (52:41) led the Saints men by finishing 10th in Sunday's 20-kilometer freestyle race. Dan DeLestry (53:25) was 13th and Jack Christianson (53:28) was 14th. Northern Michigan took the top three spots and finished the weekend with 213 points for the conference title. Michigan Tech (177) was second, followed by the Saints (145).
The Saints are at the NCAA Central Region Championship next weekend in Ishpeming, Michigan.
