Prep report: Bombers' Miletich tops milestone

Bob King / Hermantown's Jacob Herter (left) takes a shot on Wayzata's goal that barely misses the net in first-period action of a Hilltopper Holiday Classic semifinal Thursday at Mars Lakeview Arena. Teammate Blake Biondi is at left and Wayzata's goalie, Sawyer Andersen, reaches to block in the 3-2 Hawks victory. For more prep news, see Page B3.

Senior forward Emily Miletich topped 2,000 career points but it wasn't enough as Barnum fell 59-46 to Heritage Christian Academy in high school girls basketball action Thursday in the Esko Coaches Classic.

Taylie Scott and Annika Simonson scored 15 points apiece to lead Heritage Christian (5-3), which trailed 33-28 at the break before shutting down the Bombers in the second half.

Miletich was the lone Barnum player in double figures in scoring with 15 points. She now has 2,007 points for her career.

Duluth Marshall 3, Brainerd 2

Nolan Krenzen's goal at 9:10 in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Hilltoppers held on to win in the semifinals of the Hilltopper Holiday Classic at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Krenzen's goal put Marshall up 3-2 before Brainerd (6-3) scored a power-play goal two minutes later, but that's how it would stay as goalie Cam Brandt stopped 28 shots for the Hilltoppers (8-2-1).

Hermantown 3, Wayzata 2

Blake Biondi scored two goals to lead the Hawks to the semifinal win in the Hilltopper Holiday Classic.

Tristan Nelko cut the deficit to 3-2 early in the third period for Wayzata (5-4-1) but that is as close as the Trojans would get as the Hawks' Cole Manahan stopped 14 shots.

Hermantown (4-3-2), the three-time defending tournament champion, plays Duluth Marshall at 3:30 p.m. today at Mars Lakeview Arena for the title.
