Huskies split doubleheader at Eau Claire
The Duluth Huskies split a Northwoods League doubleheader on Sunday at Eau Claire, winning 4-3 in the opener before losing to the Express 3-2 in 10 innings later that evening.
The doubleheader Sunday came after a June 16 meeting between the two teams was postponed. They play again at 6:35 p.m. today at Wade Stadium in Duluth.
The Huskies (14-13) scored two runs in the top of the ninth while holding the Express (11-15) to a single run in the bottom half to get the win in the opener. The Huskies were held to just six hits in the win while Eau Claire starting pitcher Riley Johnson went the distance, striking out 10 batters.
The Huskies and Express both plated a single run in the ninth to force a 10th inning in Game 2. Center fielder Matt Fraizer was 3-for-4 for Duluth with an RBI, only to be outdone by Eau Claire left fielder Zach Ashford, who was 4-for-5 with an RBI. The Huskies committed three errors in the loss.
