Curling: US women split at world championships
Team USA rebounded from a morning loss to Canada to beat Italy 9-4 on Monday evening and stay in the hunt for the playoffs at the World Women's Curling Championship in Beijing.
Skip Nina Roth's team, which includes Aileen Geving of the Duluth Curling Club, scored the first three points against Diana Gaspari's rink and closed the match out with three more rocks in the house in the ninth end to improve to 2-3 in round-robin play.
The U.S. took a 2-0 lead in the match against Rachel Homan's Canadian side and were up 5-4 heading into the ninth end, but Homan executed a double takeout to score three and end the match.
The Americans today face Denmark and China, teams with a combined 1-9 record.
