Reader's view: Republican health care proposal beyond shameless

The current debate over health care reminds me of the Peter, Paul and Mary song, "All My Trials," in which they sing, "If religion were a thing that money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die." The same can be said of health care, and I paraphrase, " If health care is a thing that only money can buy, the rich will live and the poor will die."

A study by the Harvard Medical School and the Cambridge Health Alliance concluded that "45,000 annual deaths are associated with lack of health insurance." Are we not moved by the fact that every other developed nation has achieved universal health care? Shouldn't the richest nation in the history of the earth consider universal health care a right and not a privilege?

The current Republican proposal that would knock 24 million poor people out of health care coverage is beyond shameless.
