William L. Matheny
William L. Matheny, age 70, of Cameron, WI died Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at Monroe Manor in Barron. He was born September 25th, 1947 to Sherman & Elizabeth (Lunini) Matheny in Tazwell County, IL. He was raised with his 2 sisters in Pekin, IL where he graduated from Pekin High School. He went on to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he attained a degree in mathematics. Bill worked as a machinist for Caterpillar in the Pekin/Peoria area before moving to Cameron. He taught machining at WITC-Superior for a time & tutored many students in math. In 1978 he began his employment with Jennie-O in Barron and worked at the hatchery in maintenance for all of the years he was there until his retirement in January, 2016. He had a deep commitment to his job & loved the people he worked with. On April 4, 1984, he was married to Ann Peterson in Cameron & they had 4 children: Tim Saprina, Mike & Elise who were his entire world. He coached each of them in softball & any other sports they played. When they would leave after being home he would say, "just look at them, they are such great kids". Bill was an avid dirt track racing fan in his youth & loved any and all sports. The number one true love of his life was fishing. His family would come to the Cameron area fishing each year and after Bill moved to Cameron, he and his father continued the tradition. His cousin Sherman also became a memorable fishing partner. Bill with his fishing boat, 15 hp motor, 2 cane poles, worms & Prairie Lake, never could a happier man be found. Over the years, Bill was also an active volunteer in the Cameron Community Fund & Cameron Area Scholarship Foundation.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents & son: Timothy Clark-Matheny. He is survived by his wife: Ann of Cameron, son: Michael Matheny (Lindsy Endersbe) of Mound, MN, daughters: Saprina Matheny (Elizabeth Miller) of Duluth, MN & Elise Matheny (Josh Brue) of Savage, MN, grandson: Reese Matheny, sisters: Mary Matheny & Rebecca Matheny, as well as many other relatives & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6th at First United Methodist Church in Barron with Rev. Changki Kim officiating & interment following in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Cameron. Visitation will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home in Cameron & also for the hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Cameron & Dallas.
