Frances Dorraine Backa

Frances Dorraine Backa, 93 of Cloquet passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born February 16, 1924 in Brainerd to Garfield and Nellie Murphy. She grew up in Remer and graduated from Remer High School in 1942. After high school she was a bus driver in Los Angeles, CA, a taxi driver in Little Falls, MN and after moving to Cloquet she worked as a bookkeeper for the Pine Knot, Stock Tire and Cloquet Concrete. She was also the owner and manager of a home decorating store in Cloquet. Later she was a loan processor at City National Bank. After her retirement, she continued working with the public by selling pull tabs at the VFW.

Dorraine was a member of Eastern Star, Women of the Moose, and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing, raising Arabian horses, playing cribbage, bingo and karaoke.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Carl Smith, Louis Naalsund and Allan Backa; sisters, Christine Brigham and Margaret Murchie; grandson, Scott Naalsund Hillman.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gerald) Pullen of Blaine; sons, Dennis (Sandy) Naalsund and John Naalsund both of Cloquet; grandchildren, Kari (Jeff) Short, Julie (Mark) Radil, Kyle Naalsund, Tracy Hansen, Shaun Naalsund, and Corey Naalsund; and 9 great grandchildren, Anna Jo, Garrett, and Dillon Short, Cole and Tate Hansen, Amber and Brett Hillman, and Ryan and Soleil Naalsund.

The family would like to thank the staff at Inter-Faith Care Center for their loving care provided to Dorraine.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
