Body of missing swimmer recovered in Sturgeon Lake
Authorities have recovered the body of a swimmer who had been missing since Saturday afternoon in Sturgeon Lake.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as John Fanning, 28, of Moose Lake. Witnesses reported he had jumped off a boat and had trouble staying above water before going under, the Sheriff’s Office said. His body was recovered at 4:40 p.m. Monday.
Fire departments from Moose Lake, Sturgeon Lake and Willow River, as well as Mercy Ambulance, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the St. Louis County Search and Rescue and the Stacy-Lent Fire Department Dive Team assisted in the operation.
