Cloquet Applebee’s is closing
The Applebee’s restaurant in Cloquet will close its doors for good Sunday. In a note to customers on the door of the restaurant, the company said that after 12 years of business in Cloquet, it is finished.
“The business economics of the restaurant are no longer favorable and the decision to close was a hard one,” the note said.
According to the note, all staff and managers who wish to remain with the company will have the opportunity to relocate to any of the 55 Applebee’s restaurants in Minnesota that are owned and operated by Apple American Group. A staff member said many are looking for other jobs in Carlton County.
The Applebee’s restaurants in Duluth and Superior will remain open.
In February, Applebee's announced that it anticipated the closure between 60 and 80 locations in 2018 after closing 99 locations in 2017. Its sister brand, IHOP, is expected to close 30-40 locations.
