One killed in Douglas County crash involving car, cement truck

A 77-year-old Solon Springs man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the car he was driving was struck by a cement truck just outside Superior.

The collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Highways E and Z. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Raymond Cload.

The sheriff’s report said Cload’s 1999 Ford Taurus was eastbound on Highway Z when it failed to yield to the southbound cement truck. Cload’s car was struck on the driver’s side and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 44-year-old Superior man, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff and medical examiner’s offices, and the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Motor Carrier Enforcement Section. Town of Parkland Volunteer Fire Department members also responded to the scene.
