Wrestling: Four win section titles

A pair of Grand Rapids and Hibbing wrestlers claimed individual titles at the Section 7AA finals Saturday in Milaca.

Cole Jones of Grand Rapids earned a 9-1 major decision over Hibbing's A.J. Bethea to win the 106-pound championship. His teammate, David Brenden, edged Aaron Sistrunk of Chisago Lakes 3-2 in the title bout at 126.

Morgan Fuenffinger topped Teddy Pierce of Chisago Lakes 6-3 at 113, and Tone Fuenffinger decisioned Dru Kuchenbaker of Milaca 11-4 at 138 for Hibbing.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class earned trips to next weekend's Minnesota state wrestling meet. Results can be found in prep summaries.

Wisconsin wrestlers fall short

Superior wrestlers Ross Kennelly (160 pounds), Emanual Carson (132) and Joseph Miller (220) all lost their first-round matches at Saturday's Division 1 sectional meet at Wausau West High School, ending their seasons.

Northwestern's Jamison Pflug (126) and Jay Karich (195), as well as Ashland's Jorge Roundwind (126) and Jon Litersky (170) also dropped their matches at the Division 2 sectional in Amery, drawing their seasons to a close.
