UMD to host presentation on ‘fake news’
UMD’s Labovitz School of Business and Economics will host a presentation on “fake news” on Thursday.
Jane Kirtley, the Silha Professor of Media Ethics and Law at the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication will present “Making the News or Faking the News? The State of the First Amendment in 2017” from 5-7:30 p.m. in Bohannon Hall 90 on the UMD campus.
The free event centers on plummeting public trust in mainstream news media amid the rise of social media and blogs, which are not always bound by ethical principles, and the consequences of that. Kirtley is a national legal expert on freedom of speech and the media.
