Denfeld to host community school planning
As Denfeld High School moves toward a school model that will mean more support for students,
various groups have been meeting to gather ideas on what that should look like.
On Tuesday, those groups will come together at the school to share their ideas. Community members are also invited to offer their own.
Denfeld joins Myers-Wilkins Elementary and Lincoln Park Middle School as schools with expanded offerings for kids, or full-service community schools. Community schools typically partner with outside resources to offer physical and mental health services, social and other family services, and after-school enrichment and tutoring programs.
The schools try to address basic needs that better prepare students for learning, and also aim to engage students and families.
Denfeld received a planning grant from the Minnesota Department of Education for its efforts, and will apply for another grant to pay for things like a program coordinator.
The meeting is from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Denfeld Media Center, 401 N. 44th Ave. W. Participants will be asked to prioritize ideas. Transportation and childcare are available. Contact Kathy Bogen at (218) 940-1593 or firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange it.
