Man shot, killed by Itasca County sheriff's deputy
A man was shot and killed by an Itasca County sheriff's deputy early Saturday after threatening deputies with a gun, authorities said.
Itasca County Sheriff Vic Williams reported in a news release that deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 400 block of Second Street NW in Cohasset at 2:49 a.m. Saturday. Williams said that upon arrival at the scene, deputies were confronted by a man with a gun. Williams said the man threatened the deputies with the gun and was shot by a deputy.
The man was transported to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, where he died. The name of the man who died and the deputy who fired his weapon were not immediately released. Further details on the circumstances of the shooting also were not immediately available.
"Following standard protocol this incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension," Williams reported in the news release.
Cohasset is about five miles northwest of Grand Rapids.
