Man accused of shoplifting in Duluth leads police on chase

A man arrested for allegedly shoplifting at Kohl’s department store broke free from Duluth Police and led them on a  chase Wednesday evening before being caught,

police said Thursday.

Authorities were called to Kohl’s, 2115 Miller Trunk Highway, shortly after 3 p.m. for a report of a man and a woman shoplifting in the store. Duluth Police identified the man as Keith McDonald, 24, after an initial investigation. Police said McDonald had a felony warrant in Douglas County. An officer arrested McDonald and placed him in handcuffs.

McDonald then escaped from custody and ran from the scene.  Law enforcement officers set up a perimeter and used their canine unit to help track him down. A short time later they found

McDonald and took him back into custody, according to police.

McDonald was taken to the St. Louis County Jail for the outstanding warrant and new charges of escaping from custody, fleeing police on foot and theft.

The 27-year-old woman that police said was shoplifting with McDonald was issued a citation for misdemeanor theft and later released.
