Anthonly Lewis Kozar, 25, and Ryan Adam Locke, 24, escaped from NERCC on Thursday. By Sunday evening, both escapees had been returned to custody.

On Saturday about 1:30 a.m., Virginia police received a call about a possible stolen vehicle from the Holiday Station, 1502 12th Ave. S. in Virginia.

The caller reported a white male with a white T-shirt, red hat and shorts had stolen a 1998 Toyota Corolla.

The vehicle was reportedly seen heading south on Highway 53 toward Eveleth.

Officers later spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull the vehicle over. When the driver didn’t stop, officers pursued the vehicle south on Highway 53 while receiving help from the Gilbert Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Hermantown Police Department.

The vehicle was disabled and eventually stopped in Hermantown where Locke was taken into custody on his outstanding warrants, as well as theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a police officer in a vehicle.

On Sunday, about 9:07 p.m., Eveleth Police Sgt. Jesse Howe spotted Kozar on the 200 block of Monroe Street.

Howe proceeded to confront Kozar, but Kozar immediately ran into a residence at 212 Monroe St. Responding officers set up a perimeter. The St. Louis County Emergency Response Team also responded.

Kozar was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Virginia St. Louis County Jail.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, Fayal Township Police Department, Virginia Police Department and Gilbert Police Department also assisted with this incident.
