NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- A New Richmond man heading east on a rural St. Croix County road ran through a stop sign and collided with a pickup Thursday morning, Oct. 4. He died at the scene, according to the St. Croix County sheriff’s office.

Joshua J. Derrick, 27, was on County Road G about 10 miles east of New Richmond about 7:30 a.m. when his 2014 Ford Focus collided with a 2002 Ford F350 pickup heading south on U.S. 63.

“The sun, as it was rising in the east, may have been a factor in this crash,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Derrick was wearing a seat belt but did not survive the crash.

The pickup rolled into the ditch and came to rest on its roof. Its driver, Brian W. Holldorf, 49, of Baldwin was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
