In April? Dog has to be rescued after falling through ice on lake
ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Really? An ice rescue on a central Minnesota lake in April?
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department sent out a warning Friday, April 6, that people and their dogs should be careful on lake ice as the sun this time of year is as powerful as in September.
The department said that last weekend the Chain of Lakes Fire Department and Stearns County Deputy Aaron Wells were dispatched to the report of a dog that had fallen through the ice about 50 yards from shore on Koetter Lake.
The call came in around 9:53 a.m. Saturday and the fire department was on scene by 10:10 a.m. Before the deputy arrived, the firefighters had rescued the dog, who was holding itself up on the edge of the ice, and reunited it with the owner. The dog was reported to be doing well.
