Water main break shuts down water in Lakeside
A water main break on Monday shut down water in the Lakeside neighborhood for about 12 hours and caused icy road conditions on London Road.
Crews from the city of Duluth identified a break near London Road and 42nd Avenue East on Monday afternoon. Due to the cold temperatures, ice buildup occurred around the intersection of London Road and 42nd Avenue East that required additional plowing and sanding to ensure the area was safe for traffic, according to Chris Kleist of Duluth’s Public Works Department.
In order to repair the break, the city had to shut down the water from 40th Avenue East to 43rd Avenue East, according to Kleist. Excavation work began at 3:30 p.m. Monday and crews worked throughout the night. Water service was restored at about 3 a.m. Tuesday and the repair was completely finished at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to Kleist.
