911 service fully restored in St. Louis County
St. Louis County's 911 service has been fully restored after being out for much of the day as part of a larger phone service outage.
County officials reported at 2:45 p.m. that 911 was again operational in the Virginia area, which had been the last location without service as part of the outage that at one time affected the entire county, as well as 911 in Cook County.
The outage started before 7 a.m. Tuesday, with officials providing an alternate number for people to call in case of an emergency. Cook County reported that its 911 service was back online by 10 a.m. Service to all of St. Louis County except the Virginia area was restored by about 11 a.m.
CenturyLink crews worked to fix the outage, which Cook County officials said appeared to be "due to a failed switch in Duluth."
