The Western National Bank, 5629 Grand Ave. in Duluth, suffered its second holdup in less than a year yesterday afternoon. Two masked men, armed with handguns, entered the bank about 12:40 p.m. and one vaulted the counter and took money from the teller drawers.
A little of the wild west will come to the North Shore this weekend during the Silver Bay Days rodeo. The Silver Bay arena will be the scene of bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, and bull riding.

The Duluth teachers union filed a lawsuit yesterday seeking to stop school administrators from taking action against teachers who distributed endorsement fliers in schools the day before the primary election. Administrators say teachers violated the board's policy on political activities on school premises.
A plan to build a golf course at Spirit Mountain found little support at a public meeting yesterday. Most people who addressed the Spirit Mountain Board said they either totally opposed the idea or were concerned that promises by developers wouldn't be kept.
