Julsrud to head new youth facility
Former Duluth City Councilor Jennifer Julsrud has been named director of the Center for Changing Lives, the youth services center being built in the 1400 block of East Superior Street.
Julsrud will begin her duties on Jan. 3, according to a news release from Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, which is building the center.
Construction of the 27,000-square-foot building began in May, and it's scheduled to open in June. It will house all of the agency's youth services, which currently are spread out in various facilities. It also will provide 10 supportive apartments and 10 transitional housing spaces for youth.
Julsrud was elected to the 1st District seat on the City Council in 2011 but chose not to seek re-election after serving one term. She has served for three years on the statewide Lutheran Social Service board of directors, but will step off the board when she takes her staff position, according to the news release.
She also was active on the committee that raised financial support for the $9.1 million project.
