Donation funds UMD math lab

The University of Minnesota Duluth has a new math lab in its library, thanks to a $750,000 donation.

Securian Financial Group gave the money to UMD in honor of Bob Senkler, a 1974 UMD graduate and the company’s recently retired CEO. The lab will open in late September. It is expected to double capacity for some math classes — up to 120 seats, while also offering smaller class sizes through a two-room design.

The Securian Math Learning Lab in the Kathryn A. Martin Library is part of the Securian Learning Commons space on the second floor. LIbrary staff reconfigured and reduced their workspace to make room for the lab.
