All-Christmas radio moves to classic rock
The newest FM radio station it the Twin Ports has, as expected, abandoned its all Christmas format for a classic rock format.
Townsquare Media Duluth on Tuesday announced the launch of The New Sasquatch 106.5 FM which will also be broadcast on the company's sister station, WEBC 560 AM.
The new format includes the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show in the mornings and "real classic rock for the Northland" programmed locally.
The FM translator was recently purchased by the company and moved from Moose Lake to Duluth. The company also dropped the sports format for WEBC. For the past week both FM 106.5 and 560 AM were playing Christmas music 24/7 as a publicity stunt to clear the way and draw attention to the new classic rock format.
"We have a lot of classic rock fans in the market and we continually heard that listeners wanted another classic rock option," said David Drew, Townsquare operations manager in Duluth, in a statement. "We decided to program a musically focused classic rock station with an irreverent, 'anything goes' style. Our goal is to have fun and let the community have input on the direction of the station."
Townsquare Media owns and operates 310 radio stations in 66 small and mid-sized U.S. markets.
