Two adults and a child were found dead Saturday after an apparent murder-suicide at a home Apple Valley, Minn.

The three were found in their rambler home on Ramsdell Drive after Apple Valley police were called at about 1 p.m. Saturday.

The victims are a couple "in their late 20s, early 30s" and their 5-year-old daughter, according to a neighbor who saw the bodies and called the police. The names of the victims were not released Sunday by Apple Valley police.

The bodies had apparently been in the home for days or weeks.

The neighbor, contacted by phone Sunday, said he checked at the house after noticing that the lights in the home had remained on.

The neighbor assumed the occupants had taken a Christmas vacation. "I shoveled their driveway a couple of times," he said.

When he approached the front door Saturday, he saw a worrying sign -- Christmas presents sitting unopened on the doorstep.

According to police radio messages recorded by Minnesota Police Clips, a gun was seen lying on the floor by the bodies.

Police reported finding the "obviously deceased bodies" on the first floor of the home, along with a "very angry dog."

"That dog looked thin, and he was already skinny to begin with," said the neighbor.

Police didn't issue any other details. The investigation, assisted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, is ongoing.
