Kwik Trip opens next week in Superior

Twin Ports residents pining for Kwik Trip milk, coffee or Glazers Donuts can get them locally starting next week.

The first Kwik Trip in Superior will open next week, four months after ground was broken for the store. Kwik Trip spokesman Steve Wrobel confirmed the 24-hour convenience store at  Tower Avenue and North 28th Street will open at

5 a.m. Thursday.

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting is slated for 11 a.m. Sept. 3. It’s the first of eight new Kwik Trips slated to open in the Twin Ports before the end of the year.

“There’s lots of excitement,” said Wrobel, who spent much of this week in Superior. “I think it’s a really neat thing to see; people are excited to open the stores up.”

The second Superior Kwik Trip, along East Second Street at the site of the former Nemadji Travel Plaza, is scheduled to open its doors at 5 a.m. Sept. 25, with a ribbon-cutting set for 11 a.m.

Oct. 11. A third Kwik Trip under construction at Banks Avenue and Belknap Street is tentatively slated to open in October.

In Duluth, Kwik Trip stores are slated to open by the end of the year in the 4200 block of Grand Avenue and at Michigan Street and 27th Avenue West. Additional stores are set to open in Hermantown and Scanlon.

And six or seven more Kwik Trip locations are planned for the area in 2015.

The La Crosse, Wis.-based company, which opened its first store in 1965, has grown to encompass more than 450 stores in three states.

The chain expects to employ about 400 people in the Twin Ports. While new Kwik Trip employees already are training at the Superior Business Center, Wrobel said there still are positions to fill. People can apply online or watch for upcoming job fairs through the company’s website,
