Power outage strikes more than 2,000 customers in downtown Duluth

Approximately 2,708 Minnesota Power customers in downtown Duluth were without electricity for up to six hours early today because of a problem with an underground feeder line overnight.

Kelley Eldien, a spokeswoman for Minnesota Power, said the east and west ends of downtown lost power at about 12:45 a.m. Power was restored off and on by 2 a.m., she said, but a difficult fix with a spliced cable underground near the Incline Station off Sixth Avenue West and Superior Street meant the grid wasn’t completely back on until 6:30 a.m.
