Plan for CN railroad project open for public comment
The Canadian National Railway’s plans for a new $30 million upgrade and expansion of a railroad line running through Gary-New Duluth are now available for public review and comment.
A description of the Steelton Hill Double Track project as well as an Environmental Assessment Worksheet can be accessed online at duluthmn.gov/planning/current-planning/eaw/ or in person at the Duluth Public Library, 520 W. Superior St., and at the Duluth Planning Office in Room 208 of City Hall, 411 W. First St.
Comments on the project will be accepted through June 11.
Plans call for the existing rail corridor to be realigned and for a second set of tracks to be installed to remove a current bottleneck in CN’s operations.
The line will cross several streams and tracts of wetland. It runs roughly alongside and north of the Becks Road Corridor between Gary-New Duluth and Interstate 35.
