Chisholm police hold armed robbery suspect

They didn’t know it at the time, but Chisholm police officers executing a search warrant Friday nabbed the man wanted for the armed robbery of a Chisholm gas station a day earlier.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Alexander Michael Horner on drug charges during the execution of a search warrant early Friday. Hours earlier, the department had sent out a news release asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of robbing the Chisholm Freedom Value Station at First Avenue and Lake Street early Thursday morning.

Subsequent investigation linked Horner to the gas station robbery, and he later admitted to his involvement in the crime, the Chisholm Police Department reported.

Horner was arraigned in two separate cases Monday in State District Court in Hibbing. Judge David Ackerson set Horner’s bail at $75,000 for the charge of first-degree armed robbery, and at $15,000 for charges of fifth-degree possession of oxycodone and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Horner will be back in court for both cases on Thursday.

Police said Horner used a fixed-blade hunting knife to rob the gas station. He is accused of brandishing the knife, ordering the clerk to the floor and taking cash from the till before fleeing on foot.

Horner was taken into custody during the execution of the search warrant at his apartment, 429 Second St. S.W., about 12:45 a.m. Friday.
