Elma Hage of Duluth will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house from 1-3:30 p.m. today in Viewcrest Health Center, 3111 Church St., Duluth, with the Blue Water Big Band playing from 1:30-2:45 p.m.
Elma was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Wentworth, to Matti and Whilhemina Syrja. She grew up in Wentworth and graduated from Superior Senior High School.
Elma was a stay-at-home Mom raising four children, Judy Patton, Nancy Listiak, Mary Hallsten and Tracy Hage Jr. She was married to Tracy Hage Sr. for over 40 years until his death in 1987.
Elma has lost three of her four children within the past five years. Her daughter, Mary, lives in Duluth and has the blessing of still having her Mom with her.
Elma is also known as "Gram" and "Nana." She loves her Packers and Brewers and is happiest when she is able to watch a good ball game. First in her heart is her family. She loves their visits and spending time with them. Elma also raised several children who were not her own.
Elma was a faithful volunteer at St. Mary's hospital. She enjoyed spending time with patients and getting to know them.
