Alyce Nelson Talarico Graves of Cotton, formerly of Duluth, will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Mr. D's Bar & Grill, 5622 Grand Ave., Duluth.

Alyce loves receiving cards, but no gifts, please.

Her children are Betty Jo (Roger) Maher of Cotton, Mary Lee (Jim) Henriques of Carlton and Michael J. (Ric) Talarico of Duluth. She has seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Alyce was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Duluth, to Harry and Ida (Reinterson) Nelson. She grew up in West Duluth and attended Longfellow Elementary, West Junior and Denfeld High Schools.

She worked at Kleerflax and married Joe F. Talarico of Duluth in September of 1941. She drove a coal truck for Talarico Coal Co. during World War II and was the accountant. While raising three children, she was the accountant for Talarico Sales and Unit Step. She was also a self-employed tax preparer. Joe passed away in 1987. In October of 1992, she married Hollis Graves of Duluth.

Alyce enjoyed volunteering, was president of the PTA at Irving and West Junior and participated in the Duluth Centennial. She taught religious education at Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's. She remembers the fire of 1918, traveling, hunting and camping. She enjoys gardening, fishing, sketching and painting, cooking, making wine and always has the coffee on.
