Eh?: Film fest on its way

Great news, film fans: the Sprout Touring Film Festival is coming to Duluth’s Zinema 2 on Aug. 7.

Don’t know about Sprout? Don’t worry, it’s only in its third year, and it is from New York City, so you’re forgiven. But just because you might not have heard of it doesn’t mean you should skip it.

The film festival includes independent films that either star or are created by individuals with developmental disabilities. The festival aims to raise these creators’ profiles.

Films have been selected by self-advocates and allies and will be shown in two screenings at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., each with a different selection of films. Tickets will be $5 for each screening and $8 if tickets are purchased for both the 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. programs. There will be local PSAs by Toby Thomas Churchill, and there will be a collaborative art exhibit, “Seriously.”, in the Teatro Atrium and lobby featuring local artists with disabilities.
