Best Bets: From bickering to ‘Dear friend’

It’s everyone’s favorite rom-com story: two bickering coworkers are actually the anonymous lonely-heart pen pals falling for the other’s words. The University of Minnesota Duluth’s production of “She Loves Me,” directed by Michael Brindisi, the artistic director at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, opens today at Marshall Performing Arts Center.

The musical by Jose Masteroff, Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock (“Fiddler on the Roof”) is set at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. Georg, an otherwise shy manager, clashes with Amalia, a savvy new hire, in a way that the other employees recognize as the prelude to romance.

Meanwhile, there is a ton of other love-inspired chaos brewing in the store.

University of Minnesota Duluth’s production of “She Loves Me” opens at 7:30 p.m. today and plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 10 at Marshall Performing Arts Center. Tickets: $21 for adults, $16 for senior and UMD faculty/staff, $10 for students, $8 for UMD students.
