Best Bets: ‘The Lost Legend of Viking America’ gets a test screening

“The Lost Legend of Viking America” gets a test screening today at Zinema 2. Photo courtesy of Mike Scholtz.

He’s chronicled the case of a snowmobiler who made two attempts to travel from mid-Minnesota to Moscow in the 1970s before, seemingly, turning to a life of crime (“Wild Bill’s Run”). And then he captured the competitive Jigsaw puzzling scene, which includes a major event in the epicenter of the state (“Wicker Kittens,” which played at SXSW this past year).

Now, local filmmaker Mike Scholtz has turned his attention to the Vikings. No, we’re not talking about the ones who bumble their way through the NFL’s regular season. Scholtz is considering the real Vikings with the nest-like beards and fur capes.

Scholtz is hosting a test screening for “The Lost Legend of Viking America” at 9:10 p.m. today at Zinema 2.

The movie asks: “Did Vikings invade Minnesota in 1362? And why did they leave all their stuff here?”
